 Garages and Small Building Packages

When is a permit not required?

Typically, a garage or related structure does NOT need a permit when:

  • Is under 10 m2 (107 sq. ft.), and
  • It is not attached to a house and
  • Is not in the front yard, and
  • It meets the height restrictions.

Back yard parking pads typically don't require a permit, but if you would like to build a garage on top of the pad in the future, then there are some rules that might fall into place.

Engineering involvement is required for slabs over 55 square meters.

If your project does not meet these criteria, you will need a permit.
